languages and all our ideas
Location of votes collected at www.allourideas.org
I like to say that All Our Ideas allows groups around the world to collect and prioritize ideas in a way that is democratic, transparent, and efficient. As the map above shows, we do indeed process votes from pretty much all around the world. However, in order to reach even more people, our community of users has started translating the site. Now in addition to English, the voter-facing portions of the site are available in
- Arabic (العربية)
- French (Français)
- Hebrew (עִבְרִית)
- Italian (Italiano)
- Portuguese (Português)
- Spanish (Español)
- Turkish (Türkçe)
The internationalization is very easy for you use, and we are hoping to add more languages over time.
To change the default language for your idea marketplace, go to the admin page (e.g, http://www.allourideas.org/[your_url]/admin) and scroll down to the additional settings. There you will see a drop-down list of available languages. Choose the language you want and then click save. You will not see a change yet. However, the next time you or anyone else visits the voting or the results pages, the default language will have changed.

One thing to be clear about is that we have not translated the entire site; only the portions of the site that are seen by voters have been translated. The sign-up process and the admin functionality are still English only (until we can find more translators or a volunteer who wants to help us integrate with Google Translate).
We also want to express our gratitude to our awesome volunteer translators (listed in chronological order):
- Spanish: Catholic Relief Services and Google Translate
- French: Catholic Relief Services, François Sery, and Google Translate
- Portuguese: Tiago Peixoto, Ale Abdo, and Google Translate
- Arabic: Peter Lubell-Doughtie, Sarah Kaiksow, Tarik Nesh-Nash (of Software Centre Morocco), and Google Translate
- Turkish: Ozsel Beleli
- Italian: Gianluca Torresani
- Hebrew: Uri Shwed
If you have suggested changes for any of our translations (we know they are not perfect), please send us an email with the current wording, the preferred wording, and the location of the problem (e.g., on the voting page or as part of the data visualizations). Finally, if you would like to help create All Our Ideas in your own language, please get in touch.
